Ripple Brings Tokenized-Asset Trading on Hyperliquid to Institutional Clients

Ripple is extending the reach of traditional markets into the always-on world of crypto. Through Ripple Prime, its institutional brokerage business, eligible clients can access swaps linked to more than 100 reference markets, including stocks, indices, exchange-traded funds, commodities and currencies. The underlying perpetual contracts are listed by Trade.xyz on Hyperliquid, while Ripple Prime acts as the client’s counterparty and brings the positions into its broader brokerage relationship.

The change matters because traditional markets generally follow set trading hours, while blockchain-based venues can operate around the clock. Ripple Prime says clients can trade and settle these RWA-linked swaps 24/7 and cross-margin their exposures alongside other supported asset classes. In practice, that could help an institutional trading desk manage a commodity position and a crypto exposure within one risk framework rather than treating them as entirely separate activities.

In brief: Ripple Prime is opening access to more than 100 traditional-asset reference markets through Hyperliquid-listed contracts; Trade.xyz provides the underlying perpetual markets, and Ripple Prime remains the client’s counterparty. Market maker Virtu Financial is among the early users, while cross-margining and continuous trading are central features of the offering.

Ripple Prime connects institutional clients to Hyperliquid markets

Announced on October 15, 2026, the service brings tokenized assets and traditional-market price exposure into a prime brokerage platform used by institutional clients. The contracts reference assets such as equities, stock indices, ETFs, metals, energy products and currencies, and are available beyond the opening hours of conventional exchanges.

The structure is important: clients access swaps through Ripple Prime, rather than simply holding the underlying assets or trading directly with Trade.xyz. The contracts themselves are listed on Hyperliquid, a decentralized derivatives venue, while Ripple Prime provides the counterparty relationship and brokerage framework. These products offer price exposure; they should not be mistaken for ownership of the referenced shares or commodities.

How cross-margining can link digital and traditional exposures

Cross-margining allows eligible positions to be considered together when calculating collateral requirements, subject to the broker’s rules and risk controls. For example, a hypothetical trading firm with positions in gold-linked swaps and digital assets could manage those exposures within a consolidated relationship instead of moving between separate platforms and accounts.

That convenience does not remove market risk. Perpetual contracts can use leverage, prices can move sharply, and margin requirements may change; continuous access also means markets can react while traditional exchanges are closed. The benefit is a more connected way to manage positions, not a guarantee of lower losses.

Trade.xyz supplies more than 100 RWA perpetual markets

Trade.xyz is the venue behind the reference contracts offered through Ripple Prime. It operates within Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 framework, which enables third parties to deploy perpetual markets on HyperCore. The framework went live on mainnet in October 2025, and market deployers must meet its staking requirements.

Trade.xyz’s listings include contracts tied to major U.S. companies such as Tesla, Apple, Nvidia and Amazon, alongside index and commodity exposure. In March 2026, the platform also obtained a license from S&P Dow Jones Indices to offer a perpetual contract referencing the S&P 500. For institutional users, the growing catalogue creates more ways to access familiar market benchmarks through digital trading infrastructure.

Hyperliquid’s role shows how decentralized finance can support products connected to conventional markets. Yet the contract venue, the brokerage counterparty and the referenced asset are distinct parts of the arrangement—a useful distinction for anyone learning how asset tokenization and on-chain derivatives work.

Virtu joins a fast-growing market for tokenized assets

Virtu Financial, a global market maker active across markets in about 50 countries, is among the early users of Ripple Prime’s offering. Scott Moegling, who leads digital-asset business development at Virtu, has highlighted round-the-clock cross-margining as a way to adapt as markets move toward more continuous access.

The launch also arrives amid rapid growth in RWA perpetuals. DefiLlama data cited in the announcement showed open interest above $18.7 billion across platforms, compared with $161 million in July 2025 in an earlier a16z crypto analysis. Those figures reflect different points in a quickly developing market, and open interest measures outstanding contracts rather than cash invested or the value of assets owned.

Ripple Prime is the rebranded business formerly known as Hidden Road, which Ripple agreed to acquire for $1.25 billion in April 2025 and completed the purchase in October that year. At the time of acquisition, the brokerage reported clearing more than $3 trillion in transactions annually for over 300 institutional clients, giving Ripple an established base across digital assets and traditional finance.

RLUSD and the broader push for blockchain-based markets

Clients can also use Ripple USD (RLUSD), Ripple’s stablecoin, as collateral for these positions, according to the company. Its market capitalization has surpassed $2.4 billion, an increase of roughly 85% since the start of 2026, providing another link between Ripple’s payments and trading businesses.

The direction extends beyond crypto-native firms. Morgan Stanley has targeted early 2027 for tokenized-share products, while Nasdaq has discussed how tokenization could unlock tens of billions of dollars in collateral. Ripple’s Hyperliquid integration is one example of institutional trading adapting to infrastructure that stays available when conventional venues are closed; the next test will be whether liquidity, risk controls and regulation can keep pace with that access.
